This mirrors my story 💯 You’re younger than me, but I’m glad you got out younger! It gives you more time to figure out what your purpose and your fulfillment looks like! I’m really excited we found each other! I’m sure there more of us out there. Looking forward to collaborating and sharing our experiences 🫶🏼🩷

"I was good at my job and life wasn’t unbearable by any stretch of the imagination." That's the understatement of the year. You are an EXCEPTIONAL communicator and quite possibly one of the smartest communicators that I ever had the privilege of hiring, partnering with and LEARNING from. Great post. Honored to subscribe!

Those words mean so much coming from you! The honor is all mine, Dave. I learned so much from you that I will take with me wherever I go. Glad we get to stay connected, too.

this was so good to read. the writing is great, and kept me hooked because i was so curious to find out your next steps! overall, good to know that you handled it well and that it helped you learn a lot more. many times, such firing is completely undeserved and disrespectful. personally i’m a fresh grad days away from starting a new job, and reading a vulnerable piece from a professional is extremely eye-opening. :)

Thank you so much for the kind words — and congratulations on the graduation and job! I'm glad this piece resonated. I truly believe that becoming aware of and consciously crafting your path (whatever you choose) will always lead you in the right direction. Wishing you all the best as you start this exciting new chapter.

That was amazing. It feels like you had a lot of awareness at the time of being fired and were ready to take on the abrupt change. I can imagine some people would allow it to effect them negatively and spiral in despair. What do you think prepared you for this moment?

I would like it say it was conscious preparation, but I think it was more the subconscious knowing this was right for me that allowed me to accept and move forward. There seems to be some magic in making peace with life as it comes at you. A skill I would like to be able to practice more deliberately!

Wow, it's like looking a mirror here! I had a very similar experience. After many colleagues also had this experience I was the next in line and I felt the same emotions you described. Like you I had enjoyed my career for the most part, but I was feeling unfulfilled and wanted to find my true calling. Luckily that came to me through a stroke of inspiration and I'm now a fiction author and marketer for other authors. You might be interested in my story since it seems we are on similar paths! https://marissamalson.substack.com/p/changing-careers-in-my-thirties-how

Wow, indeed! There are so many parallels I stopped counting. Unfulfilling corporate marketing/comms career? Check. Surviving the first round of layoffs only to be hit by the second? Yep. The part about divine timing also really resonated with me (25 year old Aisha would have definitely independent female-d her way to yet another corporate comfort), and it's incredibly inspiring to see the success of your aligned efforts. Will definitely be following along.

That is wild! We were meant to connect! Wishing you all the success as you carve your new path forward and I'm rooting for you!
